This evidently pissed the driver off enough that he hung out his window and flipped the woman off. "Man, that guy is stupid" I thought to myself. I ALWAYS smile nicely and wave in a sheepish manner whenever a female does anything to me in traffic and here's why... I drive 38 miles each way, every day, to work. That's 76 miles, of these, 16 each way is bumper-to-bumper. Most of the bumper-to-bumper is on an 8 lane highway. So, if you just look at the 7 lanes I am not in, that means I pass something like a new car every 40 feet per lane. That's 7 cars every 40 feet for 32 miles. That works out to be 982 cars every mile, or 31,424 cars. Even though the rest of the 34 miles is not bumper-to-bumper. I figure I pass at least another 4000 cars. It seems this person had had brushes with the authorities on his way home from the odd social sessions over the years. A couple of nights ago, he was out for a few drinks with some friends at the Pour House and had a few too many beers and a rather nice red wine. Knowing full well he may have been slightly over the limit, he did something he had never done before... He took a bus home. Sure enough he passed a police roadblock, but as it was a bus they waved it past. He arrived home safely without incident, which was a real surprise, as he said he had never driven a bus before. I know that I lived them all... And I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams... But, here it is...the winter of my life and it catches me by surprise.... How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go? I remember well...seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that winter was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like... The young family's 5-year-old daughter naturally took an interest in all the activity going on next door and spent much of each day observing the workers.
